India Adventure 2023

I joined a group of yoga students on a 20 day tour of North East India. Our journey started and ended in Kolkata (Calcutta). While in Kolkata, we visited Jain temples, street markets, statue makers and sites associated with Mother Teresa. It was festival season in India. We arrived during the end of Navratri and the Durga Puja and the preparation for Diwali.

Beauty in Siliguri

We spent a few nights at a Tea Plantation in Siliguri. Floral tributes and beautiful art surrounded us. We toured the tea gardens and learned about tea cultivation. Yoga classes were held on the outdoor terrace at dawn and dusk.

Himalayan Majesty: Kalimpong

Our caravan of six cars drove into the mountains to the town of Kalimpong. Monkeys were common on the roadside, hoping to be fed. The Mayfair Kalimpong Himalayan Spa Resort was our stop for a few nights. The air was crisp and clean. Beautiful gardens and art surrounded us. We enjoyed the quiet majesty of the Himalayas and the vibrant action in the streets and local markets.
